Alton 2 - 1 Petersfield Town

Posted: 14.08.19

Following Saturdays defeat manager Kev Adair made seven changes for Tuesdays game and was fully justified as Alton came from one down to win two one.

Alton 2 - 1 Petersfield Town

With a flea in their ear from Saturday Alton started on the front foot and took the game to Petersfield, Perkins shot wide and then the keeper collected his cross, before Sanderson had a shot that was deflected for corner.

Alton were nearly caught out as they allowed Essai to move forward from midfield and his shot cannoned back off the post. Petersfield's Judd shot wide, before Bowerman had a cross cleared.

Alton forced Gardiner in the Petersfield goal to save, following Matt Graham's free kick, Hooker got on the end of it but Gardiner saved.

Hooker was soon in action at the defensive end as he cleared a cross, this was picked up by Tremlett who let fly from twenty five yards and it flew past Courtnage into the top corner to give Petersfield the lead.

Bowerman had a shot saved, before on the stroke of half time Graham's free kick went just wide.

The second half started with Fowler running at the Petersfield defence, his pass found Dos Santos, whose cross was blocked for a corner. After Alton changed their shirts due to the sky blue of Petersfield making distinguishing players difficult, it was Alto who took advantage as the ball fell to Scott Sanderson thirty yards out and he gave Gardiner no chance for the equaliser.

Alton now had their tails up, although Courtnage had to save from a header. Following good work by Oli Graham and Bowerman, Perkins had a shot saved.

Petersfield were trying to stop the onslaught, they conceded free kick after free kick, first Moore's free kick was headed back into the danger zone by Oli Graham but Sanderson headed wide, then Perkins free kick just evaded Bowerman in front of goal.

Alton scored the winning goal when Sanderson picked up the ball found Bowerman with an exquisite pass, who laid off to Hitch who took a couple of touches before his shot from the edge of the area nestled in the bottom corner of Gardiners goal.

Although Petersfield tried to get back into the game, it was Alton who were in the ascendancy, a Matt Graham corner found Oli Graham, but his header was cleared off the line.

Hitch almost scored again but his header from Perkins cross looped over Gardiner, but bounced off the bar.

Petersfield's Neal shot over the bar, before Tremlett saw red for a foul on Phillips which earnt him a second yellow.

A much improved performance will give Alton confidence as they head to Folland Sports on Friday.
