Chairman's Message: It's a Team Game, Jose
Posted: 20.12.18The other day I watched again the highlights of ‘How The Ryder Cup Was Won’ and was, of course, struck once more not only by the sheer excitement and joy of the occasion but by the obvious real sense of teamwork among the Europe team. Even when playing in singles or in pairs, there was a real sense of playing for and being part of a team, with support from captains and non-players forever at hand.
When Real Madrid won La Liga in 2012 they had gone four years without the title and the open-top procession took double the time estimated due to the larger than normal celebrating crowds.
After club captain, Iker Cassillas, draped the national flag over the city hall balcony he held up three fingers and two fingers. The club’s 32nd La Liga championship. The crowd got that and cheered even more loudly.
The manager stepped forward and held up five fingers and two fingers. The crowd didn’t much get that and didn’t respond. What did he mean?...seven days in a week?...Seven deadly sins?...Seventh heaven?... CR7?
No, he was signifying that he had now won seven league titles.
It’s a team game Jose (as proved to you again this week!).
We like to remember that it is a team game at Alton FC.
Cheers
Jim McKell
Chairman
