Andover Town 0 - 2 Alton

Posted: 17.11.18

Alton put the horrors of last Tuesday behind them as they continued with their fine league form as they travelled to bottom placed Andover and came away with a two nil victory and a second league clean sheet running.

Matt Bunyan could have scored as quick as last week but his header from Liam Knight's cross went just over the bar.

Andover had a corner of their own which Alton cleared and with Gavin Muir bearing down on the Andover goal McHardy was quick off his line to clear.

Andover's Pinnock had a shot saved by Boughton in the Alton goal, before Alton went ahead. Taylor Watts controlled the ball on the half way line his ball found Muir, who cross found Bunyan in space on the edge of the box, where he had time to control and shoot home left footed, the keeper got a hand to it but couldn't keep it out.

Andover were playing better then their league position suggested and Pinnock shot wide again, before George Spiers broke up an Andover attack, came out of defence to find Muir who shot wide.

Bunyan combined well with Steve Black but his shot went over the bar. Shortly after Bunyan got his and Alton's second, a long ball from Boughton, found Bunyan who controlled, beat three players on the edge of the box to fire home for his seventeenth goal of the season, to seemingly put Alton in control.

Ben Williams on a rare sortie forwards crossed but no one could get on the end of it. Boughton had to be alert to tip a cross shot over, with Andover coming more into the game Boughton was forced to save twice more, before Bunyan and Muir combined to set up Black and McHardy was equal to it.

Muir was unceremoniously fouled which earnt Andover's Smith a yellow card, from the resulting free Bunyan forced McHardy to tip over and deny him his hat trick.

The second half was a pretty even end to end game as Alton were determined to hold on to what they had and Andover thought they had half a chance to get something from the game.

It was Alton though who had the better of the early chances as Black shot over and Bunyan, was forced wide when he had sprung the off side trap and was unable to keep his shot on target.

Bunyan had another hattrick chance when Clarke's, far post corner was headed back by Spiers, but again McHardy foiled the attempt.

Alton made a change with Matt Jackson replaced Watts, I looked like an inspired change as his first involvement saw him get in but McHardy saved.

With Alton unable to take advantage Andover came more into the game and Boughton had to be alert to save form Emans and then Holmes shot wide when well placed.

For Alton, Thomas shot over before Black shot straight at the keeper. Andover thought they had reduced the deficit from a corner but Liam Knight was in the right place to clear off the line with Boughton beaten.

Boughton saved his best for last as he went full length to turn a free kick wide. With the corner coming to nothing it was Alton that were victorious.

Next week Alton are back at The Enclosure as third placed Hythe & Dibden are the visitors in a Wessex League division one game.
