Alton 3 - 1 Fawley AFC
Posted: 28.10.18In a game that could best be described as scrappy, it was Alton who came out on top, and returned to winning ways, after last week's defeat.
Alton made just one change from the previous game with Jason Grenham replacing the injured Reece Colbourne at full back. However it was Fawley who had the first chance, using the advantage of the wind as Lilley shot over when well placed. Callum Burch on Alton's right created there first chance but his cross was cleared. Fawley almost took a fortuitous lead as a misunderstanding between keeper Boughton and Black, ended with Black heading over Boughton, but fortunately for Alton wide of the post. The corner came to nothing and shortly after Alton took the lead. Joe Clarke played the ball into the box, with Fawley's keeper coming for the ball, full back MacLeod didn't hear the call, and only half cleared the ball which fell to Scott Sanderson on the edge of the box, and he controlled and scored the opener, with the goal keeper struggling to get back to cover his goal. It was a lead that was short lived, Boughton made a save for a corner, and Alton paid the ultimate as Willis was left unmarked to head into the top corner for the equaliser. This set back seemed to kick Alton into life, Clarke headed over from a Gavin Muir cross, before Alton had shouts for a penalty, as Sanderson set Burch away down the wing, his cross was met by Bunyan and with the keeper beaten a Fawley defender appeared to control the ball with his arm before clearing. Fawley forced another corner, before Sanderson headed against the post when well placed. Clarke had another attempt but his shot was saved, with Sanderson ready to pick up any spillages. With the wind becoming more of a swirl, the second half become a dour battle, with no real chances being created by either side, so it was a surprise when a move of quality saw Alton restore their lead, Bunyan got down the right and squared for Muir who in turn laid off to Sanderson, his shot was well saved by Parker in the Fawley goal , but he could only parry it back to Sanderson whose second shot found the back of the net with Fawley defenders failing to get back to clear. Adkins replaced Grenham and with a slight change in shape, this gave George Spiers the time to get forward, he played a one two, then cut in from the right and fired home Alton's third from just outside the box with his left foot. This made the game safe and although both sides huffed and puffed, there were no real chances created until, Alton played a short back pass , which found Lilley, but Boughton was equal to it to keep the Fawley striker out. And so the game ended, George Spiers was named the joint sponsors man of the match, and award that was presented to him by Wey Valley Radios Sorts Presenter Mark Taylor on behalf of Wey Valley and Scott 2 Go.Next up for Alton another home game next Saturday as Totton & Eling are the visitors to the Enclosure.

George Spiers receives Man of the Match award from sponsors Scott 2 Go and Wey Valley Radio.
