Alton Youth 3 - 4 Camberley
Updated: 15.10.17Alton crashed out of the Hampshire Cup, after a good display but they could not see game out conceding two late goals.
The first half started evenly with both sides playing some good football, the visitors who are unbeaten in the Ryman League hit the wood work from distance after 10 minutes. The first goal came after a rare mistake from Toby Glover in the Alton goal, as he let a harmless cross slip through his hands and it was headed home from close range. This spurred the home side on as they started to get on top, there first chance came after some good work down the right, the cross could not be converted by Liam Knight. Alton did equalise though when Knight crossed for Harry Rolfe who converted via nose / face and body to make it 1 all. Camberley then hit the post after a good switch of play from right to left saw a rasping shot pass Glover but strike the post.

The home side were slow to start the second half and in this time saw an enforced change when Kian Ventham was replaced by Reiss Deere. Camberley took the lead when the home defence failed to clear a good cross with the ball slammed home from close range. Alton had to show character as they could not get going and rode their luck as another shot struck the bar and a Camberley forward missing after rounding Toby Glover hitting the side netting from an acute angle. James Laird replaced Harry Rolfe and made an immediate impact as he chased ball that he had no right to get too and was bought down by the advancing keeper. Joe Abel stepped up and dispatched the penalty, this spurred the home side on and they now looked more likely to go into the next round. Alton then stunned Camberley with a goal of real quality Joe Gasson skipped past two or three challenges and slipped the ball to James Laird who fired home from 12 yards, this left Alton in front for the first time with little more than 5 minutes and the visitors began there bombardment of the penalty area with balls being slung in the box at every opportunity. There tac tics paid of on 90 mins when they bundled ball home from a corner, with injury time in progress Alton again failed to clear after another corner, Toby Glovers punch and a couple of other failed attempts to clear meant the ball stayed in the Alton area and finally the visitors bundled the ball over the line for victory.
FT Alton 3 Camberley 4
Really good effort but not quite enough on the night against a strong Camberley side.
