Alton Youth 1 - 2 AFC Totton

Updated: 31.07.17

This was the first pre season fixture for a new look Alton side, with lots of debuts and after only one training session. These were telling points and with lots of players unavailable all stacked up against the home side in the end with only two subs.

Totton started the brighter as Alton took time to adjust to new partnerships around the pitch, and Toby Glover in the Alton goal saved well at the feet of a Totton forward. After 15 minutes Alton created there first chance with a good corner from Sam Mercer the visitors some how managed to block the initial header and follow up shot from Joe Abel. This was start of a good spell for Alton which lasted the rest of the half, their next chance fell to Liam Knight who missed from close range after some good work down the left wing from Reiss Deere. Knight went close again soon after shooting wide from 10 yards, but Alton did take the lead after 30 mins when a great solo run from Joe Gasson was finished with as much composure as the run itself. During this period Totton continued to threaten with Glover in goal dealing with anything that got through a sold and well organised defence of Cantwell, Younger, Lucca and Ventham. During this period the shape of Alton had been distrusted by a head injury to Joe McLeod which then saw Joe Abel SIT in the middle of the park.

Alton, could not maintain the high standards of the first half and spent most of the half on the back foot with the visitors dominating procession and chances. That said the home side showed good character and determination as they held out until midway through the half before conceding the equaliser and ultimaty the winner. Both of these were strikes of high quality, which seemed the only way they would beat an inspired performance from Toby Glover in the Alton goal. With Will Mead having to come off through injury the Alton team looked stretched as the half came to a close but with a change to 3-4-3 the home side gambled in a search for an unlikely equaliser that perhaps performance may not have deserved but would have been reward for all the efforts of the group.

FT Alton 1 AFC Totton 2

Thanks to a good Totton side, that deserved the win on the day. This will be a good starting point for a young squad of players, with some great performances. With a few training sessions (not fitness tonight ) and with 10 players away or working we look forward to a positive and successful season.
