Alton 2 - 2 East Cowes Victoria

Alton played out their second drawn game of this season on Saturday, mainly due to the fact that when they were on top early on and they failed to take their chances, and then allowed East Cowes to belie their position in the league table and grow into the game. And in fact in the end they were well worth the point.

Alton started brightly with Taylor Watts causing Cowes issues on the wing, but his crosses came to nothing. East Cowes had a free kick that was well saved before Alton took the lead when Scott Sanderson headed home Sean Hayes's corner in the 7th minute.

Alton carried on pressing, but chances were beginning to come and go, without being taken. East Cowes were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Kallum Lunn appeared to take out the East Cowes forward with the referee just awarding a goal kick. This seemed to spur East Cowes on and the equaliser duly arrived when Joe Craig forced the ball home.

The game then ebbed and flowed, Regan Hitch hit the bar, then the referee decided again no penalty when Scott Sanderson was flattened in the area, Gavin Muir and Sanderson both had shots saved before the first half ended.

The second half was just two minutes old when East Cowes took the lead when Lunn could only parry Craig's shot and Jimmi Burton slotted home the rebound. It could have been so different as just before Sanderson headed over a corner, which could have given Alton the lead. East Cowes sensed an unlikely victory and worked hard to get men behind the ball and make it difficult for Alton to create chances.

The ball was spending most of the time in the East Cowes half, but unfortunately for Alton, the final ball was either not quite good enough or an East Cowes defender was in the way. A fine cross by Watts was taken down by sub Ryan Ayling, who set up Hitch, whose shot was saved. However form the corner the ball was only half cleared and Gavin Muir shot home to draw the Brewers level. Ayling saw his shot spilled by the keeper, with no one on hand to take advantage.

It was no way one way traffic and Lunn had to be alert to save from Craig. Alton went three at the back as they sent centre half Adam Aimable up front, but were unable to force the victory. So the game ended in a draw.

Next up for Alton is a tough trip to third placed Laverstock & Ford next Saturday
