Downton 3 - 2 Alton

Following back-to-back victories Alton made the trip to Downton on Saturday and due to injuries and unavailability had to make five changes to the starting line up.

It turned out not to be Alton's day as two deflections and a missed penalty saw Alton leave pointless.

Downton took the lead as early as the second minute when a shot from Cox hit an Alton defender and deflected over Kallum Lunn in the Alton goal. This set back spurred Alton into life and Scott Sanderson equalised on ten minutes when he headed Ryan Ayling's cross past Aldridge in the Downton goal.

The game moved back and forth without too many chances before poor defending from a cross allowed Cox to get his second goal and restore Downton's lead.

This was a lead that lasted just six minutes when Ryan Ayling picked up the ball just in the Downton half and with the defence going backwards, eventually placed his shot over the keeper for a second equaliser.

But just three minutes later Downton were back in front when a deflected shot fell kindly for Prentice who only needed to slide the ball under Lunn for a half time lead.

Wise words from manager Clive Ventham saw Alton come out for the second half with more purpose as they pressed for the equaliser, it wasn't all one way as Lunn was called on to make two really good saves to keep Alton in touching distance.

Alton got their chance on 85 minutes when Flint was adjudged to have fouled Ayling in the box and the referee awarded Alton a chance to get a third equaliser. Sadly it was not to be as Kurt Greenaway's spot kick was saved by Charles Aldridge to keep Downton's lead in tact.

And so a fruitless trip it turned out to be. With no midweek game this week Alton can look forward to a tough trip next Saturday when they make the long journey into Dorset to play Weymouth Reserves.
