Weekend Roundup

Alton Ladies 1 - 1 Gosport Borough Women (4 - 5 Pens) (Invitation Cup)

Today we welcomed Gosport Borough FC Women to the Exclusive Network Stadium for our Hampshire Invitation Cup home tie.

It was a hard-fought and incredibly tight encounter, with little goalmouth action early on as both midfields battled for control. Neither side was willing to give an inch and, despite some committed exchanges and hard work, it remained all square at half-time.

We came out after the break with our wide players pushed higher, which gave us a much more creative and attacking threat. At the same time, our back line and midfield trio continued to work tirelessly, restricting Gosport to very few chances. After a number of opportunities went begging and with a penalty shootout looking increasingly likely, we finally broke the deadlock in the 80th minute.

A superb corner from ‘Wallace’ dropped onto Ania’s head and, after the ball was somehow cleared off the line, Cara — who had been outstanding all game — was on hand to volley home! ⚽️ 1-0 Alton! We pushed for a second and thought we had it when Claudia’s excellent free-kick found Ania at the back post, who forced the ball over the line. Celebrations were short-lived, however, as the flag was raised. Credit to Gosport, who responded strongly. A scramble on the edge of the box saw the ball break loose and a speculative effort sneak inside the post. 1-1, and penalties it would be!

With both sides level at 3-3 after five penalties, Alton had the chance to win it with our final scheduled kick, but the Gosport goalkeeper tipped the effort onto the bar. Sudden death followed. Both teams converted penalty number six, Gosport scored number seven and the pressure fell on Alton.

Unfortunately, it wasn't to be, as the shootout ended 5-4 to Gosport. 💔 Congratulations to Gosport and good luck in the next round. Thank you for a fantastic, hard-fought encounter. The excitement of the penalty shootout was certainly worth the £2 entry fee, even if the result didn’t go Alton’s way! 🖤🤍🖤🤍

Solent Sports 0 - 7 Alton Ladies Development
A dominant performance from the Development team on a less than perfect pitch. A scrappy affair at times but the Devs were in complete control throughout the match. Lexie led from the front and score our first goal pouncing on a loose pass from their goal kick.
A hat-trick from Lexie in the first half gave us a comfortable lead. The second half was a brilliant performance from the ladies - goals from Lucy (x2), Christina and Yas secured a comfortable but well deserved 7-0 win.
Credit to our back line and midfield for the superb work rate. Congratulations to Lucy M for her player of the match award - very well deserved. A fantastic result. Thank you to Solent Sports for being very good hosts, good luck for the rest of your season.

⚫️ U9 Gladiators continued their winning start with a strong performance vs Churt Constellations. Excellent work rate, skills and teamwork throughout!

⚪️ U11 Bobcats played the first Alton derby of the season, narrowly missing out to Manor Colts Panthers.
Paige opened the scoring after great pressing, and the Bobcats stayed calm and passed well. Panthers grew into the game and eventually took the win.
Opposition POTM – Asiya
Coaches POTM – Layla

🟡 U12 Meerkats continue to hold their own in Division 1 with a deserved 1-0 away win over Atalanta. The girls adapted brilliantly to a tweaked formation, worked hard defensively and were unlucky not to score more. Cup next weekend!

Managers POTM – Alice

⚫️ U15 Thundercats travelled to Gosport and came away with a harsh 7-2 scoreline. 4-0 down at HT, the girls came out fighting. Emily set up Sara to chest down and smash home, before Amelia beat the defence and cut back for Gracie to make it 4-2.
A harsh penalty made it 5-2, with Gosport then exploiting the gaps as we chased the game. With just 12 players in hot conditions, the girls showed fantastic spirit, commitment and some really encouraging football, especially in the second half.
Opposition POTM – Alys
Players POTM – Eve

⚪️ U16 Pumas hosted AFC Stoneham Lionesses and unfortunately went down 2-0. We go again in the cup next week!

🟡 Youth Team travelled to a very sunny Chineham and came home with all 3 points!
