All across the country football matches were played under challenging heat conditions and on bone hard pitches that likely prevented the opportunity for either side to play long periods of good possession football.

This game was no different, but did result in Alton bringing home a point from a ground that has not showed a great points return over the years.

The visitors started the brighter of the two sides and really should have taken the lead as early as the 10th minute. New signing Argjend Ahmetas found Joe Wotton in space down the right flank and he delivered a great cross to the back post where the unmarked David Garlinge had drifted in but with the goal at his mercy he failed to connect and the chance was gone.

Chances were at a real premium for the rest of the half but Alton keeper Kerrison was grateful that a close range header right on half time fell safely into his arms.

On the hour Alton took the lead. Garlinge broke into the box and delivered a cross into the 6 yard box where Zak Nash bundled the ball home at the back post.

After the hydration break Redhill dominated the last 20 minutes and the visitors were grateful to Kerrison for three decent saves and a rebound off of a post as they pressed for the equaliser.

It finally came in the 82nd minute. An unstoppable left foot volley from 20 yards that flashed into the net.

As the heat and effort took its toll on the players the game settled for the last 10 to 15 minutes without a significant opportunity for either side.

The home side will reflect on the last quarter of the game and think that they did enough for the win but the visitors had a good control in the majority of the 90 minutes and will be pleased with their point.
