Opportunities at Alton FC – Club Treasurer, Finance Assistant, Subs Manager

06 Jun 2026

Alton FC has three exciting opportunities and roles to fill within the club.

If you would like to be part of the team running a successful grassroots football club, and a vital part of the community, now's your chance!

Club Treasurer

Now is a great time for a new Treasurer to start at Alton FC. The Club is strong financially and is under tight control, with excellent systems and automation in place. The Committee you would be part of is a dedicated and cohesive group, passionate about grass roots football and the community. As much training as required will be available. We want to make the transition from our current Treasurer as seamless as possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be a strong member of the Club Committee, overseeing the Club's finance systems and providing efficient support.
  • Periodically produce a summary of the year's spend, compared with last year, and raise any concerns with the Committee about large variances.
  • Have an eye on cash and allocate the right amount to capital projects.
  • Try to maintain a three year view even though it is a fast changing world.
  • Periodically review the club structure to ensure it remains fit for purpose, advising on policy and practices.

Finance Assistant

Reporting to the Club Treasurer

Purpose of the role:

  • Make payments requested by coaches and volunteers for re-imbursement of small items of expenses up to £200.
  • Input these payments into the QuickBooks accounting system and reconcile in the banking screen.

Detailed job tasks:

Banking

  • Periodically, check the shared email account for incoming emails from members of the club requesting payments.
  • These mails will come from the year group age leaders and members of the Club committee.
  • Ensure that there is a backup document attached to the email, if relevant, and that all seems ok with the request.
  • Ensure that a third party such as one of the year group leads has seen the request and is happy with it.
  • Login to the bank account app (Lloyds) and make the payment.
  • If necessary, set up any new beneficiaries as required.
  • Ensure that prior to making payments, there are sufficient funds in the account.

Quickbooks

  • On a periodic basis, log into the Club’s QuickBooks system, and refresh the banking transactions to import them.
  • Ensure that each transaction has a supplier assigned to it, and if necessary, create a new supplier if one does not already exist in QuickBooks.
  • Ensure that the correct cost category is assigned to the transaction, for example, ‘equipment’ or ‘trophies’ or ‘repairs’, etc.
  • Ensure that a justifying document such as an invoice or email, is attached to each transaction.
  • Periodically, reconcile the bank balance.

Other tasks:

When relevant, learn more about the Club's finances and develop an appreciation of the Club's income statement and balance sheet.

For more information, an informal chat, or to express your interest, please email Carl Saunders, Chairman, [email protected] and/or Giles Harrison, outgoing Treasurer, [email protected].

Subs Manager

Reporting to the Club Treasurer

Purpose of the role:

  • Manage the collection of subs from our players.
  • Helping the Secretary set up the admin system at the start of the season. Once set up the process is largely automatic with all users paying by direct debit.
  • Other tasks mainly around administering starters and leavers.

Detailed job tasks:

At the start of the season

  • Assist the Secretary in the setup of the system by ensuring the annual fee is updated, team names are updated and ensuring that the system is ready to go.
  • Checking any technical queries that users may have during the heavy sign up period in Aug/Sep, these are few and far between in practice.

Throughout the season

  • When notified that a player has left, cancel future payments and if necessary ask for a refund.
  • Send occasional chases where direct debits have failed.
  • Inform the Secretary when there are persistent non-payers (very few).
  • Maintain a regular check to ensure all players signed up to the FA portal are signed up to the admin system and are paying subs.
