Following the final game of the season the squad and supporters scrambled back to Alton’s swanky new-look clubhouse for the end of season awards and a chance to reflect on the season.
Men's Committee Chairman Dave Hawtin got proceedings underway with the promise of a snappy session before incoming pizzas and recognised the efforts of everyone involved in running the club day-to-day. He also outlined the scale of the challenge back in February to assemble a squad and backroom team with 11 matches to go and how pleasing it was to see people putting their hands up to help.
Joint Managers Jamie Philips and Matt Benham admitted they took on the challenge with some trepidation and initially struggled just getting a side on the pitch. Having got the signings they wanted and overseen a run that left them safe with games to spare, Phillips reflected that the form toward the end has been disappointing but with so many teenagers playing week in week out, a lack of experience in some key moments showed.
Overall it was a job well done and the last word goes to Dave Hawtin: “I loved every minute”.
