Match report by Dave Hawtin
An excellent first half performance by the visitors was enough to produce three points on Saturday.
Alton got off to a flyer with a super goal on two minutes. A raking cross field pass found Jamal Branker whose first touch allowed him to find Jack Roberts who drove into the box and finished superbly.
The home keeper made a really smart save when Roberts again found himself in the same position just 5 minutes later.
The lead was extended on 23 minutes. Matt Benham with a clinical finish from 18 yards with the home defence struggling to cope.
Any hopes of a comfortable afternoon for the visitors were quickly banished when the home side struck back on 30 minutes with a really good finish of their own from 18 yards.
Still the visitors were causing all sorts of problems for the home defence and from a corner just 2 minutes later Scott Sanderson glanced home a header to restore the two goal lead. 3-1 at the break.
The home side came out of the blocks in the second half no doubt having had a stern talking to and they put the visitors under a lot of territorial pressure. They created 2 or 3 good scoring opportunities one of which produced a game saving block from young Casey Balfour in the Alton goal when his side were struggling to keep out the home side. He also dealt really well with crosses coming into his box throughout the game.
This Alton side has been re built over the last 3 weeks and it is to the huge credit of the management and the newcomers to the squad that the effort and work ethic has already produced really positive results.
Alton travel to Chipstead this Saturday, 7th March. Kick off 3pm.
