Match report by Dave Hawtin
Honours finished even in this local derby but yet again it should be acknowledged that it was the visitors who will be frustrated having bossed both possession and territory for most of the game.
Against the run of play it was the home side who took the lead taking advantage of poor decision making to break quickly and score from close range.
Five minutes later we were all square again when Josh Millo broke into the box down the right and crashed home a half volley that gave the keeper no chance. Alton maintained a real threat creating some decent half chances without working the goalkeeper enough, all square at the break. The visitors took the lead on 55 minutes. Alex Macallister with a very clever near post header from a corner. The young home side then had a really positive 10 minutes or so and put Alton under real pressure culminating in a penalty on 75 minutes when a strong positive run at the heart of the defence drew a foul. The penalty was clinically tucked away. In the last 10 minutes Alton surged forward creating enough chances to win a couple of games. In that period the home side were reduced to 10 men, Alton had a goal disallowed, some wasteful finishing and great blocks by defenders and the keeper ensured the points were shared.Alton travel to Epsom & Ewell next Saturday to open the New Year. 3pm kick-off.
