If you are a regular follower of the side, it was a really pleasant surprise given that the Alton have on numerous occasions this season been the victim of late goals that have turned games against them.

In the first 30 minutes of this game Fleet were very much and top and deservedly took the lead after 15 minutes after a game of pinball in the Alton penalty area.

The home side then stayed in the game, working hard to contain the visitors who were first to every ball.

After the half hour the momentum began to change. Alton wrestled possession from Fleet and had a really impressive period of play, forcing the opposition to retreat by using the full width of the pitch to really good effect.

That momentum was checked just two minutes into the second half when Fleet extended their lead. A clearance fell nicely for an attacker who rifled a shot home from 18 yards.

Play then switched from end to end without either goalkeeper being extended too much.

With the game approaching the later stages, both sides made numerous changes as the pace of the game took its toll.

It was the home sides changes that made a real difference. On 83 minutes the visiting keeper parried a shot from distance, Karol Skoczen reacted quickest but as he looked set to tap home from close range he was fouled, penalty awarded, MacAllister cooly converted, game on.

As we entered added time, a free kick was awarded 25 yards from the fleet goal and to the left. Up stepped Zak Nash to score into the bottom left corner, as good a free kick as you are likely to see, giving the keeper no chance.

Fleet then lost a player to the sin bin but time ran out for Alton to have turned the game right on its head. The visitors will no doubt be disappointed as they had held the lead for so long.

Next up, Alton will welcome Tooting & Mitcham United to The Exclusive Networks Stadium, this Saturday 20th December. 3pm kick-off.
