Match report by Ian Hall
A fifth consecutive away match saw Alton visit Kiln Brow to play a highflying Redhill side and what had looked a tricky prospect on paper proved to be the case as the home side ran out comfortable 4 - 1 winners.
Whilst the scoreline doesn’t reflect the balance of play, with Alton looking good for long periods, soft goals in both halves gave the home side the upper hand and if they found scoring too easy, Alton once again struggled to make their good build up play count.
With a few players missing Alton started with Matt Benham dropping into a back five, Josh Millo at left back and debutante Sam Tanner slotting into central midfield.
Redhill had an early chance blocked by James Liddiard but that aside the early play was fairly even with Alton looking comfortable.
Redhill then took the lead too easily on 15 minutes; a near post corner met unopposed by George Bond and flicked across goal.
Alton continued to press and both Millo and Tanner had good runs down the left but with noone getting on the end of their crosses and efforts on goal were restricted to a couple of long-range shots from Alex MacAllister.
Once again Redhill scored their second slightly against the run of play when a smart move down the left played in their rapid winger who cut the ball back to Jayden Smith who turned sharply and lashed it into the roof of the net.
Shortly before half time Adeshola Onasanya made it 3 for Redhill from a handful of clear cut chances, with a smart dink over Adam Melville.
Turning round with a mountain to climb, Alton made a good start to the second half and on the hour pulled one back when an inviting Josh Millo cross was headed back across the box by Owen Tanner and Karol Skoczen poked home at full stretch.
Alton continued to push and another good move down the left set up Zack Nash whose goal bound stab struck an unwitting defender.
Another good chance was well saved by the home keeper but once again Alton’s efforts were punctured by a soft goal on 72 minutes - another low near post corner skimmed off the first defender, struck Bond in the face, cannoned onto the cross bar and dropped over the line for 4 1.
By now reverting to a back four with Jamie Phillips on at right back, Alton continued to push forward and another MacAllister effort was agonisingly wide but ultimately the home side were not too troubled and reaped the benefit of taking their earlier chances.
Alton are back at the Exclusive Networks Stadium next week, Saturday 22nd November, when the visitors are Horley Town and Alton we will be looking to get back to winning ways.
