Liphook United Ladies 1 - 1 Alton Ladies

Today’s match held added significance for Alton — not because of the opposition, but because we had something to prove.

It was a chance to show our intent, unity, & progress as a squad.

Despite clear skies & sun, a strong wind added a layer of complexity to the game. From the start, both teams experienced early nerves, resulting in a few wayward passes & unsettled possession on a challenging surface.

The first real test came from Liphook with a well-placed shot from the right flank. Alton’s goalkeeper, Connie, reacted sharply, getting down well to push the effort wide.

The danger wasn’t over & Emily showed great composure & timing to clear the ball off the line—an early indication of the resilience Alton would show throughout the game.

Shortly after, Liphook found the breakthrough. A long ball into the box took an awkward bounce, evading Connie & finding the back of the net.

Despite the setback, Alton’s response was immediate and determined. The midfield began to take control, led by Teyla, whose energy and work rate mirrored that of a Tasmanian devil, & Ania, who repeatedly reached passes that looked out of range, regaining possession & driving play forward.

Our perseverance was rewarded just before halftime. Claudia delivered a well-struck corner that found Teyla, who finished confidently to bring the score level at 1-1. Alton entered the break knowing there was more to give but encouraged by our growing momentum.

The 2nd half began brightly, with Alton pressing forward & controlling possession. Unfortunately, the game was temporarily halted following an injury to Georgia. We send her our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

After play resumed, the match evolved into a tense, physical contest. Liphook raised their intensity, but Alton matched it with grit and organisation.

The final 10 minutes saw both teams push for a winner, with end-to-end transitions & chances at either end.The game finished 1-1— a fair reflection of a tightly contested & well-fought match.
