Match report by Dave Hawtin
Even the most loyal Alton supporters will surely acknowledge that Alton 'got away with one' on Tuesday night as throughout the 90 minutes visitors Camberley were the better side.
It will also sit well with them that it is a really encouraging sign that the side can produce a win when they haven't played at their best.
It was a first half of few chances, the best two both fell to the Camberley left sided attacker, who was unable to get to a cross from the right that flashed across the six yard box and then a little later from the same sort of move he somehow managed to lift his shot over the bar from close range when it looked easier to score.
The second half was played in much the same way. Only a super tackle from Ed Dryden rescued the home side when Camberley broke the defensive line and bore down on goal and that same tricky winger was soon after thwarted by the top of the bar from long range.
Then on 71 minutes the sucker punch. In the same incedent in the visitor's goalmouth MacAllister was the victim of what was a very high foot challenge, but the ball then fell to Millo who was tripped, penalty awarded.
For me the first action looked like a clear penalty the second incident was not so clear.
Up stepped Poynter to confidently send the keeper the wrong way.
Still the visitors pushed forward in search of the equaliser but Alton defended properly with good shape and were ultimately able to extend their lead in injury time when substitute Nash who had only been on the pitch a matter of minutes showed quick feet to elude two defenders before dispatching his shot into the far corner.
The score flattered the home side and no doubt Camberley will play worse this season and win. We all believe these results even themselves out over the season though, don't we?
Alton travel to Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday to continue league action.
