Alton 0 - 1 Cobham

21 APR 2025

Match report by Dave Hawtin

For the third time in six weeks Alton succumbed 1 - 0 to another very late Injury time goal which gave the three points to the visitors Cobham.

Alton 0 - 1 Cobham
Alton 0 - 1 Cobham

It being the last game of the season there was very little goal mouth action after the early skirmishes to excite the crowd of nearly 300 who enjoyed the fine weather.

Owen Tanner had Alton’s best chance as early as the 6th minute but his header when well placed drifted wide of the far post.

The home side threatened on a couple more occasions during the first half and managed any threat from Cobham well ensuring keeper Melville only had to deal with one real threat on goal.

The second half was competitive and some good football was played but neither side looked as though they were prepared to step it up in search of the win so it was a real surprise and a disappointment for the home team and crowd when in injury time a cross to the back post was somehow squeezed in for the winner.

For the home side it was another successful season after another rebuild of the playing squad led to the side being precariously close to the bottom of the league at the turn of the year.

2025 was way better and the group put a really successful run of results together to rapidly climb the table. Had they been able to take all three points on Saturday they would have finished 8th but as it was 10th was a really good performance in a very competitive league.

Congratulations to Kev Adair and his management team on yet another outstanding effort.
