During the first half the home side dominated possession but found it difficult to create a real goal scoring opportunity. It wasn’t until late in the half that either side created that chance, twice Alton got in on goal but the first opportunity was let down when one pass to many went awry, before Mdlalose held his head in his hands when he shot wide when really well placed.

On 42 minutes a great block by Alton keeper Melville from point blank range after some scrappy defending keep the game level and that was to prove really important as two minutes later the visitors took the lead. MacAllister was allowed a free header from Poynter’s free kick and he duly obliged right on half time.

The visitors extended the lead early in the second half Poynter again the provider, Mdlalose’s goal bound shot deflecting in off a retreating defender.

For the first time in the game it felt as though the visitors were in control but on the hour a lifeline for the home side as they were awarded a penalty which was confidently despatched.

Now the game swung again as Sandhurst pushed forward with purpose and with just over 10 minutes remaining they were rewarded with an equaliser as a striker drove into the box from the right and shot home into the far corner.

With momentum in their favour it felt as though there might be only one winner. Cue another twist just a couple of minutes later, back came the visitors and Sanderson's cross to the corner of the penalty area found Whitby whose first touch left a couple of defenders floundering and led to a third retreating defender clumsily fouling him, penalty Alton. Up stepped Adam Poynter the coolest person in the stadium to despatch what turned out to be the winner sending the keeper the wrong way.

The visitors saw out the rest of the game safely in the Sandhurst half. Harsh on the home side but another fine three points for Alton.

Alton travel to Epsom & Ewell this Saturday 5th April. Kick off 3pm.
