Ladies 1st Team win a five goal thriller!
Our firsts produced one of their most determined performances of the season to come out 3-2 winners against Winchester City Flyers.
Having already suffered 4-0 and 3-0 defeats to the same opponents in the last month, the team's resilience and effort was on show from the first whistle, with Ania giving us an early lead with a cool finish into the bottom corner.
Winchester equalised through a deflected effort, but we went in at half-time with the lead when Sophie T's cross was spilled and Sophie “Wallace” Hall was on hand to tap into the empty net.
An end to end second half saw Winchester equalise for a second time with an excellent finish from the edge of the box, but Alton were not to be denied the victory. Our winning goal came from some lovely link up play between Ania and Nancy, who flicked the ball through to Claudia who scored her first goal for the club.
Despite missing a late penalty, Alton held firm defensively to record an impressive win. We wish Winchester well for the rest of the season, particularly in their Cup semi-final against Farnborough.
