Match report by Dave Hawtin
Alton’s run of consecutive wins came to frustrating halt when an injury time own goal decided this game.
As a spectacle this game was not a game for the purists. The bone hard pitch and unpredictable bounce made playing football a real challenge inevitably leading to the ball being in the air a lot more than either side would have hoped.
Chances on goal were a rarity, with Melville in the Alton goal only called upon once in the first half to comfortably save a free kick from distance.
The second half was a little livelier and the visitors best chance fell to MacAllister who having tricked his way into the box delayed just enough for the defenders to recover and block the shot when the keeper was vulnerable.
Generally it was the home side who threatened the most, so if there was to be a winner by the law of shots at goal they would claim the win.
That the winner came so very late in the game a from corner that looked as though it was poorly delivered to the front post will be a huge disappointment for the visitors.
Alton return home this Saturday 22nd for "Non League Day", when Spelthorne Sports will be the visitors to The Exclusive Networks Stadium. Kick off 3pm.
