Chairman's New Year's Message

01 Jan 2025

Dear Members,

As we step into 2025, we do so with a mix of emotions. The recent loss of our cherished Welfare Officer and dear friend, Kirsty, has left a deep void in our club. Kirsty’s contribution, dedication and passion for Alton Football Club will never be forgotten. Kirsty’s funeral is confirmed as 1.15pm next Tuesday 7th January at Basingstoke Crematorium, with a reception afterwards at Basingstoke Golf Club.

During this time, I am reminded of the incredible support that binds us as one club, one community; I hope we can support each other in the same way that Kirsty supported us all.

There were some heartwarming moments towards the end of last year. Seeing our juniors stepping up as mascots once again for the Men’s First Team just before Christmas was a highlight. It’s inspiring to see our different teams coming together to support one another – a perfect reminder of what makes Alton FC so special. Another brilliant example was the Ladies’ teams and the Men’s Sunday team sharing a Christmas party. Moments like these show the strength of our community and the joy of being part of one club of over 50 teams and 600 members.

Looking ahead, our Sunday team is hosting a fundraising night at the club on Saturday 25th January to support Regan Hitch in his rehabilitation after a severe knee injury in November. The evening promises to be a fantastic event, featuring horseracing and an auction with incredible items up for grabs (including a European weekend break!). Tickets, including food, are available on this link. – all welcome, don’t miss out!

Our kitchen refit is complete and back in action, thanks to the efforts of Trish, Tom, Eileen, and Tracey – I know that their hard work is greatly appreciated! The new bar fridges have been a hit, and our new kit supplier partnership with OSL has been running smoothly, with faster and more reliable deliveries.

This year we’re excited to start work on new sustainability initiatives, deepen our engagement with the local community, and hopefully launch a disabled team - more details will follow soon, but if you’d like to be part of the setup or running of this initiative, please get in touch – we’d love your help.

I’m looking forward to the 2nd half of the season starting this weekend. Our Men’s First Team are back in action at home this Saturday (3pm kick off). Remember – all Alton FC coaches gain free admission, and under 18s are free with an accompanying adult. I hope to see you at The Enclosure, cheering them on and catching up with friends.

Finally, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all our volunteers for everything you do for Alton Football Club. Your time, energy, and passion are what make this club so special.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and successful New Year.

Best regards,

Carl Saunders
Chairman
Alton Football Club
