Match report by Dave Hawtin
An afternoon to be forgotten as quickly as possible.
It will be difficult for me to convince you that there was very little between the two sides for best part of 75 minutes. At that stage only two very avoidable errors from the visitors and a clinical finish from an awkward angle that fell fortuitously for Sheerwater gave a false scoreline to the game.
Neither side threatened the other's goal for long periods and the visitors definitely shaded possession but continue to be unable to create real goal scoring chances which always leaves them vulnerable.
Alton played out the last 10 minutes with nine players having had one sent off for two yellow cards and a sin binning, and a rampant young mobile home side rubbed salt into the wounds with two late goals.
There were very obvious mitigating circumstances on the day but there is only one way to get through these difficult periods, roll up your sleeves and work hard for one another. The ability is definitely in the squad.
Following a trip to Harefield United Tuesday evening in the Second Round of the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup, Alton return home on Saturday when Fleet Town will be the visitors to The Exclusive Networks Stadium. 3pm kick off.
