Alton Devs faced a tough challenge yesterday against league leaders Springbourne Ladies, falling 5-3 in a hard-fought contest.
Springbourne were coming off a run of high-scoring performances in their previous four games, so Alton knew they were in for a test, and it didn’t take long for Springbourne to pile on the pressure.
After a difficult first half, where much of the play was spent defending, Alton went into the break 2-0 down, thanks in large part to Megan ("hands"), who made several crucial one-on-one saves to keep the scoreline respectable.
The half-time whistle offered some relief, and Alton emerged stronger in the second half however every time they clawed a goal back, Springbourne found a way to restore their lead. Eva's hat-trick kept Alton in the contest, but in the end, they couldn't close the gap.
The game ended 5-3, with Dani earning Player of the Match honors for her relentless battling and the fight she brought to the team throughout.
