Horley Town 1 - 4 Alton

10 Apr 2023

A comprehensive win on the road for Alton at the weekend.

Horley Town 1 - 4 Alton

Match report by Dave Hawtin

The visitors dominated from the start and missed two really good chances in the first half hour when really well placed. Steve Douglas in the visitors goal was only called upon once in that period, tipping over a shot from range.

Russell and Caborn were a constant threat down the flanks and Archie Larkham ably supported them raiding down the right hand side at regular interval.

It took until the 37th minute for Alton to turn the dominance into goals. Having stripped Horley of the ball in midfield, Rowan Sharratt played a delightful ball over the top, Russell did not have to break stride as he ran at goal unselfishly squaring the ball to the unmarked Mdlalose for an easy finish.

As the game approached half time Alton pressed on and after another break from Caborn he set Russell in again, this time the back pedalling defender pulled him down, penalty. Caborn stepped up but the Horley keeper dived to his right to push the ball away for a corner.

His joy was short lived as from that corner Ed Dryden climbed highest to head home from six yards, daylight.

The second half was played out with Alton in control. They moved the ball around well and time after time got in down the sides keeping the home keeper busy.

On the hour another powerful run from Caborn resulted in a second penalty for the visitors. This time Matt Graham stepped up and confidently sent the keeper the wrong way.

The game was completely over as a contest on 75 minutes. This time it was Russell who caused chaos down the left squaring the ball back for Caborn to finish left footed from 10 yards.

To their credit Horley gained a consolation goal on 89 minutes forcing the ball home when a shot came back off the crossbar.

This was a really good performance from Alton. To a man they worked hard in all areas of the pitch playing when they could and in the second half not giving the home side any hope that they would release their hold on the game.

Alton return to The Exclusive Networks Stadium for the last home game of the season this Saturday 15th April, vs AFC Croydon Athletic, kick off 3pm.
