Match Report: Brockenhurst 6 - 0 Alton

Posted: 06.10.21

A tough Tuesday night in the New Forest for Alton as league leaders Brockenhurst were clinical in despatching every chance that came their way.

The tone of the game was set early on. Liam Knight hit a shot from 25 yards that produced a stunning save from the home keeper who conceded a corner and it was from that corner the home side took the lead taking advantage of some sloppy defending when there appeared little threat.

On 12 minutes it was 2 nil, a free header from a corner as the defenders all looked accusingly at each other.

A torrid start that the visitors slowly fought their way back into, containing the confident home side and getting a foothold by upping their workrate.

Dispointment then just before half time when a lofted cross that was going out of play from the home side resulted in needless penalty that confused the crowd but was not contested enough with referee suggesting 'something' had happened!!.

A brighter start to the second half by the visitors saw them with better and more control of the ball and on a couple of occasions a bit more care with the final pass might have created really good scoring opportunities.

It was 4 nil on the hour, and again it came on the break, from a good position for Alton, Brockenhurst cleared a shot off there own goal line and then stole the ball in their own half, broke the length of the pitch and scored.

Two goals in the last 10 minutes rubbed salt into the wounds of the vistors. Lessons to be learned. 4 of the 6 goals were preventable and the stronger sides in this league are very likely to be punish you.

It still remains a very positive start to the season for Alton, the reaction in the next game will no doubt be positive and confident.
