Alton Res. 3 - 0 Liss Athletic Res.

Posted: 12.10.20

After Tuesday night's success in the JSMS, it was back to League action, with Alton aiming to continue with their recent run of form, against Liss Athletic Res.

Alton Res. 3 - 0 Liss Athletic Res.

The first half was a half of a lot of “puffing and panting” by both sides with neither side really creating much. Alton having the bulk of possession, and Liss working tirelessly to prevent anything developing. This done by also creating a few chances for themselves. Alton’s passing and movement was below the standards that they are capable of. The few chances that came about went were squandered. It wasn’t until the stroke of half time, when the quality of passing and tempo increased, when Harry Rolfe scores Alton’s first, side footing passed the Liss ‘Keeper.

HT 1-0

The half time team talk and “Gee up” seemed to sink in and The Brewers hit the ground running. The 2nd Half began with increased vigour and tempo. A mixture of quality goalkeeping , a wayward header and the crossbar prevented Alton increasing their lead in the first 5 minutes of the half. The Brewers continued pressing and the lead was doubled by a fine finish by Callum Burch on 56 minutes. 2-0

For the next 15 minutes or so, Liss could (and probably should) have pulled at least one back and Alton continued to grind away against the visibly tiring Liss.

In the 76 th minute came the moment of the match and the goal that ultimately sealed the victory. Josh Brown drove out from the back and after some intricate 1-2’s between himself, Aaron Cresswell and Ali Gill, Josh found himself through on goal and unselfishly squares the ball to Alfie Jones to slot in Alton’s 3rd and his first goal for the club. (Team goal of the season candidate?)

Overall a deserved result for the lads adding to the midweek cup win.

Room for improvement of course, but credit where it’s due they never stopped believing and working hard.

Next up is a Cup game against US Portsmouth Res on Saturday 17/10.

Team: Roux Hardcastle, Josh Brown, Lee Westbrook, Sean Evans, Jacob Channon (Nial Day 76), Callum Burch (Dave Browning 60), Ali Gill, Alfie Jones, Harry Rolfe, Chris Horton, Max Williams (Aaron Cresswell 73) Unused sub: Elliot Knight
