Alton 1 - 0 Bemerton Heath Harlequins

Posted: 23.09.19

Alton welcomed second place Bemerton to the Enclosure on Saturday and fully deserved their victory.

Manager Kev Adair was forced in to two changes from last week, Luke Perkins replacing the unavailable George Bowerman and Stuart Green replacing the injured Richie Hunter.

It was Bemerton who started brightest, with Matt Graham having to be alert to clear a dangerous cross into the Alton box.

Bemerton who would rely quite a lot during the game on the long ball and long throw, were penalised for a foul throw, before Alton started to come into the game, Perkins found space to turn and shoot, but his shot was straight at Creese in the Bemerton goal.

Ali Gill was fouled by Bennett as he chased a long ball over the top. Courtnage collected a cross, before Perkins had another shot - this time wide of the target.

Good work by Alton's midfield allowed Sanderson a shot, but again it was wide of the target. Courtnage was forced into a save from Bennett.

Matt Graham's cross was to high for Sanderson. Perkins was becoming more influential in the game and he combined with Jack Fowler to force a corner, which was cleared, before the pair combined again, this time Fowler forced Creese to save.

Liam Knight was fouled and rather than play the advantage the referee blew for the free kick, a trait he used most of the afternoon much to the frustration of both sets of managers and players alike.

A Fowler corner was cleared as Alton started to dominate the ball, again a foul with no advantage was given to Alton, Phil Moore's free kick was cleared for a corner, the corner was deep and Sanderson's header at the far post was agonisingly wide.

The half ended with Bremerton's Wain being cautioned and then sin binned for back chatting to the referee. With Alton hoping to take advantage of their number advantage at the start of the second half Sanderson found Perkins, who again forced Creese into a save.

with Perkins finding his shooting boots, he ran at his defender and again shot straight at the keeper. With Bemerton returning to a full eleven, it was Wain who set up Perrett who some how missed at the far post, when it looked easier to score.

It was a miss he was to rue as two minutes later, Matt Graham, found Luke Perkins, he ran down the left wing, cut in and curled an exquisite shot past Creese into the far corner to give Alton a deserved lead and what turned out to be the only goal of the game.

Bemerton upped the anti and Bennett headed wide, before Perkins should have doubled the lead, Sanderson got down the right wing and his pull back was perfectly placed into Perkin's path but he placed his shot over the bar.

Bemerton had a good attack down their right but Jamie Phillips was perfectly placed to head the cross over his own bar with Courtnage beaten and Finnigan waiting to head home.

With the hot weather taking effect the game ebbed and flowed, Bemerton had a cross that evaded everyone. Liam Knight had a run down the wing and his pull back found substitute Harry Rolfe but his side foot shot was just wide.

Creese was able to punch clear an Alton free kick, which set up a counter attack, but Courtnage was alert to repel the danger.

A long ball from Alton's defence was flicked on by Sanderson and with Rolfe hassling the Bemerton keeper, he some how managed to head it for an Alton corner.

Bemerton finished strongly but another shot was wide of Courtnage's goal, before the referee bought proceedings to a close.

Alton can be proud of their afternoons work and a fine victory with a first clean sheet for five games. They will head to Verwood next weekend with renewed confidence.
