Alton 2 - 0 Folland Sports

Posted: 25.08.19

Following Wednesday's fine performance at Premier Division AFC Porchester that resulted in a penalty shoot out defeat, Alton returned to league action on Saturday and fully deserved the victory that sees them sit second in the table, albeit early days.

The game was fairly open at the start as Follands looked to extend their unbeaten start to the season. It was Follands who had the first real chance but Garner's shot was blocked by Oli Graham.

Luke Perkins shot wide for Alton, before a cross form Richie Hunter just evaded Scott Sanderson at the far post. Then followed a period of sustained Follands pressure a free kick by Goreman went high over the bar, before Alex Hooker blocked a shot by Mansell.

George Bowerman was crowded out in the box following a good pass by Perkins. Sanderson and Matt Graham combined on the left to win a corner and from this Sanderson's shot was cleared.

Justin Courtnage was forced into a save before Alton went ahead. Good work by Perkins who found Bowerman, he laid the ball back to Sanderson, who saw his first shot saved by Sansom, but he reacted quickest to bury the rebound.

Alton then laid siege to the Follands goal, a cross field ball by Ali Gill, found Perkins who forced the keeper into a fine save, form the resulting corner Sanderson got in front of his marker, but his header came back of the bar.

Courtnage was called into action as he saved from Brewster, before the half ended with both Perkins and Bowerman having shots saved.

Follands really should have equalised at the start of the second half as Breon Grahams cross found McLean unmarked in the six yard box, but he somehow managed to screw his shot wide. It was a miss that was to prove costly as George Bowerman increased Alton's lead, Perkins ran at the defence the keeper parried his shot, and Bowerman shot home to double Alton's lead.

With the game seemingly won, and the heat taking it's toll, the game somewhat petered out Bowerman just failed to get on the end of a cross, before Gange shot wide for Follands, a Liam Knight cross evaded every one, before Perkins had a shot saved, before the referee bought the game to a close.

Alton now turn their attention to cup competitions as first they travel to AFC Stoneham in the league cup on Tuesday, before entertaining Andover New Street on Saturday in the FA Vase.
