Laverstock & Ford 3 - 0 Alton

Posted: 25.03.19

It was a Jekyll and Hyde performance on Saturday. The first half was as poor as the second half was good where, with a bit of luck, Alton could have got back into the game after being three down at the break.

Looking on the bright side it was a half where, for the first time in a lot of games, no goals were conceded. Playing up the slight sloop in the first half, once again Alton had chances, before they went behind.

The keeper held a Matt Graham free kick, before a Matt Petts kick was flicked on by Matt Bunyan, but Adam Allaway's shot went over. Gavin Muir was fouled by the no nonsense Laverstock defenders as he was about to shoot and the free kick came to nothing.

Bourner for Laverstock had a shot that Petts saved before the Laverstock keeper, just got to the ball as Steve Black lined up a shot after good work by Muir and Bunyan, a cross by Liam Knight was cleared.

Laverstock had two corners in quick succession before Alton failed to deal with a ball into the box allowed Jones to nick the ball and give Petts no chance. Laverstock sensed that Alton would fall apart and Max Adolphe got back to clear off the line with Petts beaten, before Petts saved from Jones with his feet.

The second gaol came as Alton conceded a soft free kick near the centre circle, and with defenders arguing with the referee Laverstock took it quickly and this allowed Campbell-Smith to round Petts and double the lead.

Petts saved again before Jones got through the middle and lobbed Petts for Laverstock's third.

With strong words said at half time it was a much better second half performance as Alton pressed the ball and stopped giving Laverstock time on the ball, Adolphe headed wide from a corner, before Muir the smallest player on the pitch got a header in but a Laverstock defender got back to clear off the line with the keeper beaten.

Liam Knight was giving his defender a torrid time and was fouled twenty yards from goal, Max Smith's free kick beat the keeper but such is Alton's luck at the moment that it cannoned back off the bar.

Smith had a shot over before Petts was called to make his first save of the second half.

With Alton in command and pressing they were lucky when Sykes broke free and with only Petts to beat and no defender near him he put his shot wide.

Try as they might Alton couldn't find a goal the second half performance warranted, and so the unwanted run continues. Next up on Saturday is a trip to New Milton Town.
