Alton 2 - 2 Infinity (4-3 pens)

Alton came through a tough game against Infinity in the Hampshire FA Russell Cotes Cup on penalties on Tuesday night.

Matt Bunyan gave Alton the lead on six minutes after a flowing move from the back, Ben Williams broke up an Infinity attack, played the ball out to Gavin Muir, who beat his defender and crossed into the box, the ball fell to Josh Maloney whose pass was turned in by Bunyan.

Both sides had chances to score before two goals in two minutes gave Infinity a half time lead, first Jamie White equalised when he shot home from inside the box, before Alton half cleared a corner and from the resulting cross Josh Cripps headed Infinity in front.

Alton came more in to the game in the second half and created a few chances to equalise but they were unable to find a way through.

The equaliser finally came with ten minutes left, following a foul twenty five yards from goal Matt Bunyan curled his free kick into the top corner.

There was still time for both sides to miss chances to win the game before the game went to penalties. Both teams missed their first spot kick, before converted penalties by Josh Maloney, Ryan Thomas, Max Smith and Matt Graham along with Matt Petts saving Infinities forth penalty moved Alton through to the next round four - three on penalties.
