Alton 8 - 2 Folland Sports

Posted: 10.10.18

Alton finally put a team to the sword this season, by taking more of the chances they have been creating.

They didn't have it all their own way as Follands took the lead from a corner in the first minute when Brandon Williams headed in at the far post.

The equaliser wasn't long coming as Scott Sanderson was upended in the penalty area, and Matt Graham coolly dispatched the spot kick.

Play flowed from end to end before two goals in the last five minutes of the half bought the game to life. First Breon Graham had a speculative long shot from a free kick and with Petts well placed to gather the ball took a wicked deflection to put Follands back in front.

It was a lead they held for three minutes as George Spiers headed in a corner to bring the scores level again in the last minute of the half.

Alton took total control at the beginning of the second half, Max Smith collected the ball just inside the Follands half and left his man for dead, cut in from the wing and gave Sansom no chance as he shot home off the far post to give Alton the lead for the first time.

Four minutes later and an almost identical move, only this time from Callum Burch saw Alton go two goals up.

Alton were now carving Follands open at will and a fine flowing move ended with Max Smith shooting home from the edge of the box for his second and Alton's fifth.

With the game won, manager Mark Corbett rang the changes and bought on Matt Brown and Gavin Muir, and with one of his first touches Brown crossed into the box and Matt Bunyan got in front of the keeper to head in Alton's sixth.

The two substitutes combined for Alton's seventh as Muir raced away down the left wing and pulled the ball back for Brown to side foot home.

Alton completed the scoring in the last minute as Brown was fouled in the area which allowed Max Smith to complete his hat trick form the penalty spot.

This was a fine all round performance from the Brewers as they look to have finally got their season up and running.
