Folland Sports 3 - 1 Alton

Posted: 09.04.18

With five changes from Tuesdays win, it was Alton who started brightly, John Hassells through ball just bobbled away from Matt Jackson, Callum Burch shot over before a Follands free kick was headed clear by Mark Taylor.

Kieron Robinson, found Callum Burch who skipped round the keeper, but unfortunalty ran out of pitch and the chance was gone, Max Paddon had a shot saved before Alton deservedly took the lead as Ben Williams was fouled in the box from a corner and Jack Chandler sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

Instead of spurring Alton on the goal seemed to wake Follands up and Petts had to be alert to save from McLean. Taylor was alert to clear and from the resultant corner Joseph shot over. McLean was becoming more influential and Petts had to be brave and save at his feet. Alton forced a free kick but Paddon couldn't keep his shot down.

Jason Grenham got down the wing but his cross was cleared and from the clearance Mclean got in behind Alton's back line but Petts was once again equal to it.

Follands equaliser finally came when Alton only half cleared a corner and Joseph rifled home from the edge of the box.

The game for Alton changed just before half time as Robinson was sent off for an off the ball incident unfortunalty the referee only saw half of what went on, and despite having his attention drawn to all of it by his assistant decide not to punish the Follands player involved.

Worse was to come for Alton as soon after the second half started Mclean got past Petts and in trying to clear Ben Williams scooped the ball off the line with his hand and he joined Robinson in an early shower. Mclean dispatched the penalty to give Follands the lead. Within minutes while Alton were still trying to regroup, Mclean somehow managed his second goal of the game and Follands third with a mishit shot that trickled into the corner of the net.

Alton now had their backs to the wall as Follands sensed a rare victory, Petts saved from Mclean again before Grenham got a block in. Danny Knee who had been ineffective all afternoon had a shot that the keeper saved. Petts had to save again before Taylor headed over in the last action of the game.

This match summed Alton's season up with players unavailable and inconsistent levels of performance against teams in the bottom half of the table. Alton will now look to dust themselves down for the final two games of the season starting with Romsey Town at The Enclosure on Saturday.
