Totton & Eling 4 - 0 Alton

Posted: 24.12.17

Alton's recent run of fine results came crashing to an end at lowly Totton on Saturday, Alton conceded two sloppy goals early on and then were not helped when Reece Colbourne was sent off for an off the ball incident.

Alton started brightly and George Callard shot wide. Totton were very reliant on the long ball, and Alton were trying to play their passing game. Taylor Watts found Max Paddon who forced the keeper to save.

It was rather against the run of play that Totton took the lead, Totton keeper Stedman punted the ball forward, Cordeddu got a flick that caught John Cass out and Luke Shergold had the easiest chance giving Lewis Boughton no chance. Worse was to follow for Alton when they lost the ball in midfield and Cordeddu lobbed Boughton who was caught in no mans land and doubled Totton's lead.

This set back spurred Alton on and Watts shot wide after a fine through ball by Joe Clarke. Watts crossed soon after that was blocked before Colbourne saw red, which made Alton's job all the more difficult. The dismissal gave Totton more room and Boughton had to get down and save as the ball skidded off the wet surface.

A good run by Danny Knee, set up Clarke, but his shot went wide, the half ended with Knee heading wide. Alton made a change at half time with Mark Corbett replacing John Cass and making a slight formation change. This move gave Alton the edge as Totton appeared to be happy with their lot.

It was Corbett who set up George Callard and his twenty five yard shot crashed back off the bar with Stedman flapping at thin air, unfortunalty for Alton there was no one on hand to get on the end of the rebound.

The game became scrappy with Totton getting men behind the ball and making it difficult for Alton to create chances. One fine chance fell to Max Paddon, who got through on goal, and as he tried to take it round the keeper he managed to get a hand on it and the chance was gone. Callard had another shot that went wide and Paddon also stabbed wide before Boughton had to be alert to clear from just outside his box. Knee cut in from the left but his shot lacked power and the keeper saved.

Totton got their third goal with seven minutes left when Alton's defence failed to clear leaving Rian Drake to put the game out of Alton's reach.

It wasn't to be Alton's day and Callum Kitcher completed the scoring when he shot into the top corner giving Boughton no chance. Alton now have a break, and will be licking their wounds before they travel to table toppers Tadley Calleva on Sat 6th January.
