Alton 3 - 2 Tadley Calleva

Updated: 06.11.17

Alton had to come from behind on Saturday to take all three points from third place Tadley, having had a week off, it showed as Alton started slowly and Connor Thorne could have given Tadley the lead in the first minute but he headed Denham's cross wide.

Joe Clarke tested Gee in the Tadley goal before Matt Petts had to be alert and produced a fine save from Paul Coventry.

With Tadley having more of the possession it was no surprise when they went ahead, unfortunalty for Alton and Ben Williams in particular, it was Williams whose header looped over Petts for an own goal.

Worst was to follow and from a free kick the ball was headed back across Alton's goal and Danny Vickers doubled Tadley's lead. With only seventeen minutes gone a defeat looked on the cards, but Alton dug in Scott Sanderson had a shot saved, before Petts produce a double save just before the break to keep the score to two.

Alton came out for the second half fired up, and Sanderson's early flick went wide of the Tadley goal. Wide men Callum Burch and Danny Knee, were becoming more influential and after good work from Burch , Knee shot over. Sanderson had another shot saved, before a fine run by Knee set up George Callard and Gee just managed to tip his shot over the bar.

The goal that Alton's play deserved finally arrived when good work by Burch saw his cross reach Sean Hayes at the far post and he prodded home to give Alton hope. Alton's midfield three of Clarke, Copplestone and Hayes were now dealing with Tadley much better than the first half, Sean Hayes and Ollie Copplestone worked hard to break up a Tadley attack and Hayes's through ball found Danny Knee and his cross was turned in at the far post for the equaliser.

Tadley were becoming flustered and getting on each other's backs, Alton's come back was complete when a cross from Knee, found Burch who flicked on for Hayes to shoot goal wards, Gee parried the shot and with Sanderson threatening the defender only half cleared and Hayes drove in the rebound to give Alton the lead.

Having conceded three goals in nine minutes Tadley were somewhat shell shocked and resulted to fair means or foul to stop Alton and when Copplestone was bought unceremoniously crashing to the ground as he was about to break free, Tadley found themselves reduced to ten men as Paul Coventry was sent off and Dallamore was cautioned. From the resulting free kick Danny Knee got clear of the defence but somehow got his chip shot all wrong and the ball drifted wide, Tadley made a treble substitution trying to get back into the game, from a cross Denham headed wide and the game ended with former player Walsh hitting a shot over the bar, which allowed Alton to hold on for a victory that their second half display deserved.
