Alton Youth 4 - 2 Fleet Spurs

Updated: 01.10.17

Alton returned to Allied Counties league action after their defeat in the FA Cup, with a home game against Fleet Town who have just returned to the league.

This was a much improved performance and the gloss was taken of the performance with the home side conceding two late goals.

The game started with Fleet starting with a high pressing game, this did not stop Alton passing the ball out from the back with composure. The first chance fell to Joe Abel early on when he showed good body strength to hold off a defender and hit a great shot that hit the inside of the post but rebounded out. This really did set the scene for the half with Alton dominating procession and make chances regularly. The first goal came after Kian Ventham done well down the right wing, beating a couple of defenders and squaring the ball for Joe Abel to smash home from ten yards. Abel went close again soon after when heading just over from close range, he was not to be denied for long though, picking the ball up on the left wing he swung in a speculative cross which beat everybody on its way into the top corner of the net. Fleet then got a foothold into the game and tested Toby Glover from long range, but he was up to the challenge. Alton created a few more chances the best of which saw Harry Rolfe miss from a good passing move. The third goal came just before half time with Liam Knight and Reiss Deere combining down the left and much like the first goal squaring the ball for Harry Rolfe who finished well from 12 yards. The final action of the half saw Alton having to replace Chris Horton who hobbled of with a knee injury being replaced by Joe Gasson

The start of the second half saw much the same pattern with Alton moving the ball quickly and looking dangerous every time they went forward. The fourth goal was not to long away after the start of the half with Harry Rolfe picking the ball up 25 yards from goal, skipping through a couple of challenges and then calmly rounding the keeper to strike into an empty net. The pace then slowed from Alton but they did retain the ball and looked comfortable, to be fair fleet kept playing and did cause Alton more problems as the game progressed. Alton made changes during the half with James laird, Jack Cantwell and Will Mead all getting a good run out. Alton got sloppy with ten minutes to go loosing a bit of shape which left a Fleet player with time on the edge of the area, he subsequently finished well. Panic ?? Alton did and proceeded to loose procession from the kick off and conceded again within 40 seconds. To be fair they saw out the next frantic few minutes and then looked dangerous themselves, with James Laird turning well and having his shot saved and from the rebound the keeper saving well from Will Mead. That was not the final chance though with the same two players combing well and Will Mead blazing over from close range.

Toby Glover, Kian Ventham, Reisss Deere, Joe Toft, Louis Kennett (C), Joe Mcleod, Ben Carlisle, Chris Horton, Joe Abel, Harry Rolfe – Subs all used Joe Gasson, James Laird, Will Mead, Jack Cantwell.

This was a decent overall performance with a 5 minute blip which took the edge of the performance and score line, but would have been more than happy with that before hand. Alton will be tested with injuries to Ellison rogers, jack Grover & Chris Horton.

We travel to Frimley Green on Monday 2nd October, 7.45 kick off, your support would be greatly appreciated.
