John Warren

Updated: 10.07.17

Alton Football Club are saddened to hear the news of John's passing this weekend. Everybody at the club would like to send their condolences to John's family. A minutes silence will be held before the Thatcham game on Tuesday night as a sign of gratitude and respect for everything John has done for the football club over the years.

John Warren

John's grandson, Ian Dyer, who was a former player and coach at Alton Town said:

“Over the weekend we sadly said goodbye to my amazing Grandad John Warren. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

As well as being a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, he was quite simply an incredible human being.

He touched so many lives through his kindness, warmth and generosity, and was always on hand to enjoy a beer, and talk football to anyone who would listen.

Alton Town Football Club played a big part in his life. He spent many years working as a dedicated volunteer at the ground, fixing things, building things, cleaning out the changing rooms, and doing all of the jobs necessary for a Non League club to function. He never expected anything in return.

He was also a keen supporter, and would follow the team both home and away, if there was a game on, my Grandad would be there watching. Football gave him such great joy.

I know he was looking forward to seeing how the team would progress under Corbs this season.

He would be extremely proud that the club is honouring him with a minutes silence before Tuesday's game.

On behalf of my family I'd like to thank Mark Corbett and everyone at Alton Football Club for this wonderful gesture.”
