Ringwood Town 3 - 1 Alton

Posted: 23.04.17

Alton's season finished with a disappointing defeat away at Ringwood on Saturday.

In a typical end of season game played in glorious sunshine, the game ebbed and flowed, both both sides showing their attacking prowess. There were a few half chances for both sides before Taylor Watts flick and Gavin Muirs cross saw Callum Burch's header saved. Almost immediately Ringwood should have scored but Matt Steer headed wide from a free header inside the six yard box, and then Kennedy in Alton's goal saved from Vint.

Regan Hitch shot wide before Ringwood took the lead. Kennedy did well to get down and save from Vint again and pushed his shot against the post, but Alton's defenders were guilty of admiring the save as they stood and watched as Ringwood gathered the ball and Harry Cooper shot home.

Ringwood sensed more goals and Vint had another effort before Alton equalised when Adam Westwood crossed and Regan Hitch's deflected shot gave the keeper no chance. The half ended with Ringwood's Joe Purdue breaking into the box but shooting wide.

The second half was much like the first with half chances at both ends, Gavin Muir shot over before Pete Richmond-Cole restored Ringwood's lead. Manager Clive Ventham rang the changes and from a corner sub statute Jacob Channon headed over, Sean Hayes had a free kick saved, before Mark Steer scored Ringwood's third and make the game safe. From another corner Mark Taylor headed over.

But it wasn't to be Alton's day. And so the season finished with Alton finishing a creditable twelfth in the table. Thoughts now turn to pre-season where already Alton have some exciting friendlies lined up.
