Alton 4 - 1 Fleet Spurs

Alton continued their fine run, with a fairly comfortable win against Fleet Spurs on Tuesday.

As early as the third minute Callum Burch had a shot saved by Appleby in the Fleet goal. In fact Burch was to have a fine game giving Harris the Fleet left back a torrid time for the whole afternoon, it was from his cross in the 10th minute that only just evaded the on rushing Sanderson, with the Fleet defence as sixes and sevens.

It wasn't all one way and Fleet forced a free kick that Kallum Lunn got behind to save. The game started to open up a bit and ebb and flow, although it was Alton having the better chances, Henry Fox shot wide from a Sanderson flick, then from a delightful cross field ball from Taylor Watts, Burch shot wide. Alton defence had to be alert though and Fleets Dan Bone forced Lunn into a save. From the resultant corner the ball bobbled around before the ball was cleared. Alton forced a corner of their own, Burch headed back across goal and Sanderson's header beat the keeper but a defender cleared off the line.

But the opening goal wasn't long in coming as Mitch Parker timed his run to perfection to slam home Burch's deliciously tempting cross to give Alton a deserved lead.

It was a lead that was doubled shortly after, Fox had shot that was deflected for a corner. Fleet half cleared the corner and Fox shot home form the edge of the box, to send Alton in at the break two up.

The second half started with Fleet's Olweny shooting wide. Jonny Way was beginning to get forward from full back on the left and crossed again just in front of Sanderson, who couldn't quite reach. The ball fell to Fox on the edge of the box, his shot was blocked but fell kindly to him who then passed to Sean Hayes who curled home at the far post to score Alton's third.

Alton continued to press and it was Henry Fox who scored Alton's forth when he ran on to Scott Sanderson's flicked header to give the keeper no chance. Almost immediately Fleet reduced the arrears when defender Ali Gill was caught out of position allowing Chris Rose to score.

Fleet sensed an unlikely come back and pressed forward, but all that really did was leave gaps at the back which Alton and Callum Burch and Jonny Way in particular were quick to take advantage off putting in some decent crosses that were either blocked or the shots or headers were wide of the target. Again Fleet survived and forced Adam Aimable to clear off the Line with Lunn beaten, then Lunn was alert to tip over a shot from Rose, the game finished with Alton on the attack as Way's cross fell just behind the Alton front line. So a satisfying day with 133 spectators watching Alton take their winning run to six.

They face a tough match next week, when they travel to play third placed Baffin Milton Rovers on Tuesday 3rd Jan in the Wessex League
