Tadley Calleva 3 - 6 Alton

Posted: 19.12.16

Football is all about goals, and there were goals aplenty at Tadley on Saturday, where Alton ran out winners in this nine goal thriller.

Tadley took the lead in the second minute while Alton were trying to come to terms with the unusually bobbly surface and from a misplaced pass, Brett Denham was able to take the ball round Lunn to give Tadley the upper hand.

It was a lead that was to be short lived as a few minutes later a through ball found Scott Sanderson who gave Hindmarsh in the Tadley goal no chance.

This seemed to spur Alton on and Sanderson should have put Alton ahead two minutes later when, from Taylor Watts cross he forced the keeper into a good save.

The game ebbed and flowed until a fine Alton move down the left involving Watts, Dec Shuttleworth and Joe Green gave Sanderson a tap in to put Alton into the lead.

Tadley were trying to get back into the game and after Shuttleworth had shot wide, some hesitant defending by Alton gave Scott Kinge the equaliser for Tadley.

Sanderson should have completed his hat-trick, when he raced clear again but this time his shot was parried by the keeper, but from the resultant play Joe Green crossed for Callum Burch to volley home at the far post to restore Alton's lead and send then in at the break 3-2 in front.

As the second half started Tadley tried to get back into the game but it was Alton who came closest when Shuttleworth got free his shot was saved and Watts was just unable to get to the rebound before Tadley cleared. Shuttleworth wasn't to be denied and from a quick throw he latched onto Sanderson's through ball to score at the keepers near post.

Ali Gill had to be alert to clear a Tadley header off the line, before a long ball by the Tadley keeper caught Alton's normally reliant back line out and Denham reduced the arrears. If Tadley thought they had got back into it poor defending by Andrew Charlsey allowed Sanderson to turn provider again as he squared to Shuttleworth who scored Alton's fifth.

To the watching fans it looked as though either side could score at will, Watts had a shot that was deflected for a corner, Burch hit the post , before Shuttleworth raced clear and squared for Ryan Bunney but as he went to shoot the ball bobbled badly and he lifted it over the bar.

With the clock ticking down Alton had to defend in numbers as Tadley forced three corners in a row, before the ball fell to Lunn. It was his quick throw to Watts who then found Dec Shuttleworth who finished in style to complete his hat trick and end the scoring.
