Chairman's Message

Posted: 12.12.16

We have, of course, had away fixtures postponed this season due to waterlogged pitches. It reminded us how fortunate we are that our home is now in a 3G stadium at The Anstey Park Enclosure - enabled by the planning conditions for housing development at our previous home at The Bass Ground.

We have had recent changes in management - with first team manager, Michael Charles, deciding to call it a day. He has since been appointed at Badshot Lea and we wish him well.

Clive VenthamClive Ventham

In the meantime club stalwart Clive Ventham, initially assisted by Sean Hayes and more recently with Kevin Beaumont joining as assistant manager, has taken on the responsibility through to the end of the season. Together they have worked hard at bringing stability and recruiting new players of substance and have been rewarded with four wins on the bounce - including a staggering 7 - 0 victory over New Milton Town and an even more impressive 1 - 0 win against title chasing Shaftesbury on Saturday.

Mark CorbettMark Corbett

From next season Mark Corbett will take over as first team manager. Mark is an ex Alton player and youth team manager. He is a full time coach with Portsmouth FC, being manager of their Football Development Programme while coaching their Academy and Scholar sides. He is currently studying for his UEFA A coaching qualification.

Robbie ClaytonRobbie Clayton

Our Reserves manager, Graham Purser, decided to move on a month ago and we thank him for all his efforts. We re-appointed Robbie Clayton to the post and he has since brought in Steve Graham as his assistant and Ian Allaway as head coach. Robbie was reserve manager last season when we won the Wyvern League Championship. In this short space of time Robbie has, like the First Team, brought stability and buzz to the group, recruited quality new players - and been rewarded with improving results of a fine 4 - 0 win at Newport on the Isle of Wight and three excellent draws - the most impressive of which was on Saturday away to top of the table US Portsmouth when a last kick goal in the fifth minute of added time prevented the Brewers taking all three points from a fixture, first team or reserves, that hasn't been kind to us over many years.

Both new management teams have responded well to the challenges they faced - with a freshness returning to the overall group, with dedicated new and past players coming on board to strengthen both teams - adding to a strength in depth while replacing a few who are now seeking selection elsewhere.

My sincere thanks to 'the whole team' of managers, coaches and players who have all responded so positively over recent weeks. Accordingly, we look forward with confidence.

Cheers

Mr Chairman
