Newport (IOW) 0 - 4 Alton Res.

Posted: 05.12.16

It's always satisfying to come away from the Island with some points - First Team or Reserves - and Alton certainly deserved to enjoy their day trip.

Having started the first ten minutes as though they'd forgotten how to play on grass with misplaced and under-hit passes it took Kieran Lenaghan to go on one of his runs driving in from the right to fire the visitors ahead from an acute angle on fourteen minutes. Making his first appearance for Alton in four years, Sam Knight showed that her hasn't lost any of his ability with a sweet left foot volley on thirty one minutes to give the Brewers a two goal interval advantage.

Alton produced a variety of further opportunities in the second half but it was left to Olli Meaker to seal matters with two goals in a five minute spell when he rounded the keeper to slot home on sixty two minutes and finished off a positive passing interchange in the sixty seventh minute.

Manager Robbie Clayton was delighted with the performance and result but said that he was particularly pleased to be able to assemble a full squad, with substitutes, and a full management/coaching team for what can sometimes be a fixture where commitment can be lacking.
