Match report by Dave Hawtin
A hard fought point gained for Alton away at Croydon who currently have the advantage in the chase for a playoff place.
On a remarkably firm pitch given the amount of rain we have been having, that in itself made it difficult for both sides, the bounce of the ball was difficult to predict making it very difficult to get a decent enough control to produce a flowing game of football.
Alton were the better side in the first half and dominated the game territorially. They were quickest to the second ball right around the pitch but were unable to create a really good scoring opportunity for themselves.
The second half followed the same pattern but the roles reversed. It was now the home side who gained the advantage and they themselves dominated territory.
To their credit Alton defended really well against their free scoring opponents who became increasingly frustrated as the game went on.
In a game where neither goalkeeper had to make a save that was to make a difference, both sides would I'm sure be happy to accept a point on the day from a game they would not have wanted to lose.
Alton continue on the road this coming Wednesday, travelling to Colliers Wood Utd, kick off 7.30pm.
