Camberley Town 1 - 2 Alton

Match report by Dave Hawtin

Kicking down the slope in the first half, Alton took the lead in the 11th minute after a good spell of possession. Ed Dryden drove forward and split the home defence with a ball that Trevor Caborn galloped onto taking the shot really early his accuracy found the far hand corner of the net past a despairing dive from the keeper.

Camberley nearly responded quickly. A deflection on a shot from 20 yards wrong footed Mees in the Alton goal. Fortunately the ball looped up, hit the bar and was cleared.

Clear chances were at a premium but in injury time in the first half Alton were again grateful that a close range header from a corner was straight at Mees who reacted quickly to push the ball clear.

Camberley showed their intent from the start of the second half, using their sloping pitch they got the ball forward quickly and during one hectic goal mouth scramble Mees and his fellow defenders got bodies in the way to clear the danger.

The pressure eventually told but the equaliser had a huge element of luck about it. A corner bounced awkwardly at the near post and in trying to clear the ball was sliced across the face of the goal and was bundled home from very close range.

If Camberley were deserving of being on equal terms at that point then Alton dominated possession and territory in the last 20 minutes.

Caborn was in again on the angle and scraped the far post with the keeper beaten. Mdlalose then struck just wide.

As the game entered the very late stages, Alton introduced fresh legs but could the visitors press home their advantage? Yes they could with that very late goal and they confidently played out the last three minutes of injury time to secure a very valuable and hard fought three points.

Alton return to HOME action this Saturday 18th February, when Tadley Calleva will be the visitors to The Exclusive Networks Stadium. 15:00 kick off.
