Alton 2 - 0 Ringwood Town

In a game that was played in very wet conditions throughout it was Alton that came out on top with a Matt Bunyan double giving Alton victory.

The game got off to a good start as far as Alton were concerned as Alton scored within the first minute. Alton took the kick off and attacked and eventually the ball found Matt Graham whose cross was headed home by Bunyan, a goal that was timed at forty six seconds.

This early set back seemed to knock the stuffing from Ringwood as they allowed Alton to dictate play as they looked to increase the lead. A fine move involving Bunyan and Mark Corbett saw Jack Chandler shoot wide. With Jason Grenham playing slightly further forward than normal he crossed and Bunyan headed just wide.

A fine flowing move from back to front and left to right found Grenham in space but his shot was well saved by Gilroy in the Ringwood goal.

With the second goal not coming Ringwood started to come back into the game, they had a cross that came to nothing before Weardon had a shot that was cleared by Ben Williams, then Boyt shot over when well placed, Bunyan headed wide again before the second goal came, Adam Allaway played the ball through to Corbett who took the ball round the keeper who somehow got back to block his shot, the ball fell to Corbett again who rolled the ball back in to the path of Bunyan who made no mistake from the edge of the box.

With the wind and the rain beginning to make the game difficult Lewis Boughton was forced to save from Harris, before a series of Ringwood corners came to nothing.

The second half became not only a battle between tow teams but also a battle against the rain, Alton forced a corner that came to nothing, the Ringwood keeper was not taking any chances and punched away a couple of chances that on another day he would have caught.

Liam Knight had a cross that just evaded everyone before Boughton had to be alert to save from Clark with his feet, and then Ringwood's Harris shot wide when well placed.

Knight had a shot that the keeper punched to Bunyan who was offside.

A fine ball out of defence by George Spiers found Bunyan who had beaten the off side trap but with Corbett and Matt Brown waiting his cross was cleared.

The game finished with Boughton making a fine double save to keep Alton's goal in tact and a first clean sheet for eight games.

Next up is the Russell Cotes Cup against premier division Christchurch on Tuesday at The Enclosure and then next weekend Alton travel to Andover Town in a Wessex League game.
