Alton 7 - 1 Fawley

Posted: 04.04.18

Alton put Fawley to the sword, helped by an own goal within seven seconds - this is believed to be the fastest goal ever scored by an Alton side.

Alton kicked off and Jack Chandler played the ball out towards the left wing and Fawley's captain Peter Keating headed the ball back towards his keeper, who wasn't where he thought and the ball sailed into the net. Matt Petts had to be alert and got down well to get a hand to a cross and divert it away from the on coming forward and John Hassell completed the clearance as Fawley tried to get back into the game.

Kieron B-Robinson made space for himself but his shot went wide, before Mark Lilley shot over for the visitors. Jack Chandler played in Callum Burch but his first touch took him wide and he could only shoot into the side netting. A fine Alton move ended with Matt Bunyan chipping the keeper but Nick Dwyer got back to head the ball over his own bar from a yard out for a fine clearance, from the resulting corner Regan Hitch's shot went over the bar.

Petts had to be alert to save again before a Bunyan flick header was saved, then Chandler had a shot, that the keeper punched up into the night air and caught the ball as it came back to earth.

Alton doubled their lead when Burch got down the wing, his cross was flicked on by Bunyan and Chandler gave the keeper no chance. Hitch had another shot blocked before Petts made a fine save deflecting the shot up onto the bar and Matt Graham cleared. A fine move involving Knee, Chandler and Bunyan ended with Burch scoring Alton's third just before the break.

Alton started the second half on the front foot and forced two early corners that came to nothing before Matt Bunyan increased Alton's lead when he got in front of the keeper from Graham's cross to head home. The same pair were involved in the fifth goal as Graham's free kick was headed back by Ben Williams and Bunyan shot home from within the six yard box.

Bunyan thought he had completed his hat trick as he lobbed the keeper, but somehow the keeper managed to get a hand to it and deflect it wide for a corner. Fawley forced Petts into a save that went for a corner and from the resulting corner Alton cleared. Manager Mark Corbett rang the changes and bought all three subs on, but Alton continued on their merry way. Jack Chandler cut out a throw out from the keeper and found Callum Burch, who calmly kept his feet and went round the keeper to score Alton's sixth from the edge of the box.

Matt Graham got down the left but Burch couldn't get his header on target. Fawley's Ben Bolton got in behind Alton's defence and with only Petts to beat somehow managed to screw his shot wide. Knee had a shot blocked following good work by Ryan Thomas and substitute Max Paddon.

Alton increased their lead when from another Graham cross Paddon's header came back off the bar and Chandler was on hand to score his second of the night and complete Alton's scoring. It wasn't for the want of trying as Chandler and Knee both had chances to increase Alton's goal tally, before Petts was finally beaten from a free kick scored by Steve Green for Fawley's consolation goal. Knee had another shot blocked for a corner and Ryan Thomas's flick was cleared and the game ended for a fine Alton victory.

Alton will look to build on the last two performances as, weather permitting they travel to Folland Sports on Saturday.
