Folland Sports 5 - 2 Alton

Posted: 01.03.17

With manager Clive Ventham forced to make changes to the line up through injury and unavailability it was always going to be a tough task last night.

Kicking into a strong wind in the first half didn't help Alton's free flowing football and with Follands reacting quickest to the loose ball, it was no surprise when Alton fell behind halfway through the first half. The goal in itself was a bit of a freak as Millar's speculative shot was sailing wide until it got caught on the wind eventually giving Petts no chance.

Taylor Watts put in two good crosses into the Follands box, that no one could get on the end of, Jackson found himself through on goal but although his shot beat the keeper, it also beat the far post as it went wide. Matt Petts was forced into a fine double save, but Franklyn reacted quickest to the loose ball and doubled Follands lead.

Alton started to get a foot in the game, and without creating many chances must have fancied themselves to change the game round in the second half with the wind behind them, unfortunately two pieces of rank bad defending allowed Follands to double the lead in two minutes just before the break, first Hayse's headed clearance went straight to a Follands player who crossed fro Coker to score, and then almost straight from the kick off Coker found himself in acres in the penalty box to head in number four.

After a few words at half time Alton came out with a much better attitude Jonny Way shot wide, before a Ryan Bunney corner was headed home by Regan Hitch to give Alton hope. Alton huffed and puffed but with Follands having a lead to hang onto never really created to many chances, Watts shot wide, Muir had a shot blocked before substitute Adam Allaway reduced the arrears when on the stroke of full time he scrambled home Alton's second.

Straight from the kick off, with Follands manager shouting to his players to take the ball into the corner, Miller cut inside and gave Petts no chance.

So Alton suffered just their second defeat in 14 matches, and will need to re-group as they travel to forth placed Stoneham on Saturday.
